一、 發展期
早期40年代前，因台灣沒有製造毛巾的工廠，大部份台灣人洗臉只能用碎布使用，40年代後，由大陸上海中大紡織，在台灣雲林縣設立第一家製造廠，才有使用毛巾的開始，直至80年代發展到200多家工廠。

二、 鼎盛時期
在60年代至80年代，由於毛巾供不應求，那時大盤、中盤都提著現金排隊取貨，有錢還不見得買得到毛巾，可以說是毛巾黃金時期，就因市場大量需求導致毛巾價格很亂，才有「面巾黑面賊」(台語)的講法。

90年代開放中國毛巾進口，低價劣質品陸續侵台後，直接影響台灣的毛巾工廠生存空間，從原先每年生產年營業額25億元，直直滑落到現今年營業額3億元左右，真是慘不忍賭啊 ! 工廠也陸續從200多家關到現在40多家，嚴重影響到整體的生計，可以說是台灣毛巾史上的黑暗期

四、 轉型期
因大陸毛巾侵銷，以往用量最大的喪事用毛巾，都被大陸毛巾給取代，所以很多傳統毛巾工廠被迫關廠，目前只留下機器更新少數工廠，維持現在生產飯店專用或百貨用，少數販售毛巾及贈品毛巾 ; 一般賣場及傳統市場目前也都大部份是大陸毛巾劣質品，導致消費者使用毛巾沒有信心，為了讓消費者對毛巾產生信心，我們將現有的飯店級使用的品質，讓消費者都能在百貨公司、專賣店或本網站購買得到，讓消費大眾對毛巾重新拾起信心。
本資訊來自毛巾界師父賴炎洲先生口述，賴炎洲先生從事毛巾業已有34年之久了，對毛巾演變過程相當了解，目前進口電腦科技機器生產飯店毛巾是精品毛巾的主流。

• 台灣毛巾目前所使用原料大多來自巴基斯坦
• 織布機分為傳統機器與無梭機器，提花機器和目前進口最新型電腦科技提花機器
• 毛巾印花 : 一般卡通名牌毛巾大部份都是用印花而成的，印花毛巾又分為手工印花及機器印花或電腦印花，民國59年間至民國70年因電器化未普及所以毛巾都以人工手工印花，到了民國71年後才開始毛巾印花機械化，直到80年代後開始有了電腦印花。
  
  本細述由義和泰印花廠張老闆口述，張老闆從事毛巾印花已經有43年之久，對台灣毛巾的盛衰相當清楚。
